This acronym is definitely not something we at creativeLEAPS came up with. But it is very well known among educators, especially those whose subject area is in the arts.

It is normally known as “S.T.E.M.” by school administrators, educators, and families, and it stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (http://www.ed.gov/stem)

By this point you might have guessed that the “A” we have added to the acronym stands for “Arts”. Reportedly, access to the arts has declined across the board, more markedly in underserved populations (http://www.americansforthearts.org/sites/default/files/pdf…) As the arts disappear from children’s daily lives (and consequently adults’ lives), unfortunately, they lose far more than an opportunity to perform at a winter concert. They are losing an anchoring, developmentally advantageous pillar in their education.
